What is Form 16 (Form 130)?

Short answer

Form 16 is the certificate of tax deducted on an employee’s salary. From 1 April 2026 it is Form 130, issued through TRACES.

What it contains

  • Part A has the employer’s and employee’s details and the tax deducted and deposited each quarter, taken from the TRACES portal.
  • Part B shows the salary, exemptions, deductions and tax computation for the year.
  • Employees use it to file their income tax return.

Is Form 16 still issued?

Yes. From 1 April 2026 it is numbered Form 130.
